Kyneton Police Station
HBO+EMTB was appointed to provide full architectural, interior design and heritage services for the Kyneton 24-hour Police Station. The building was constructed on the site of the existing Police Station within Kyneton’s Heritage Precinct.
An essential part of the project was the restoration and refurbishment of the historically significant former Police Station building, taking into account the existing heritage constraints and the need to be sympathetic with the surrounding environment. HBO+EMTB’s specialist heritage architects worked closely with Heritage Victoria to ensure all requirements were met.
HBO+EMTB provided Victoria Police with a modern, functional and flexible Police
Station with purpose-designed offices and working areas as well as an enhanced Customer Service area with appropriate traffic flow and security.
To understand the requirements and issues, our design team undertook a thorough briefing process with the local staff as well as Victoria Police’s Property team. This included interviews with stakeholders, a workshop process and reviewing all available documentation on the Police’s property standards and recent projects. Consultation with the Council and local community was also an important part of the design process.
Sustainable design initiatives proposed for the building included rainwater tanks, thermal chimneys, gas generators for power and passive solar design.
